The next project may well be a 55.1st series one ton flat bed, dual wheels. I've "sort of" been wanting one for some time and the price is right and it appears to be in decent shape, owned by the same family for many years. Grandfather, to son, to son, and was started and ran about 5 years ago but then parked. It looks in pretty dang good shape. Guy said it had "small" paint bubbles on the cab corners but the floors and cowls are solid. For $1800 I don't think I can go wrong here. I'm told the bed is in good shape but a couple boards should be replaced.

My questions for you ONE TON guys is do you know, or what is, the pro's and con's of this model. I'm not sure about the tires but they are all up and the guy says there is nothing wrong with the rear end and the engine did run good. (this would be 235)

Other than the lack of roller bearings, disc brake kits, rearend gears I don't think you'll find any real surprises. I'm sure you've seen the hundreds of posts on the subject.

The only real surprise I've had with my 3600 and 3800 truck is the lack of good running boards and bedsides out in the market place. With yours being flatbed, that's not really a concern.

I've seen your photobucket pics, I'm sure a guy with yor talent will be able to tackle anything the big ol girl throws at ya.

I have no technical advice here. But I've also "sort of" wanted one for some time since I seen one at World of Wheels here in KC several years ago. It was a black one ton dually flat bed. Man it was nice. Never saw it again after that, not even in the Stovebolt. Been keeping an eye out though. Hope you get it Alvin so we all can follow.

update: called the guy last Friday evening and offered him a 1000 but he said he didn't think his grandpa would take that for it. Suppose to call me back but no word yet.
I think I'll call him tonight and see what the verdict is..... I am willing to up the ante a little ... if its not sold!

Called the guy last night. He had not asked his grandpa due to a very serious illness in the family.(the grandmother) (hospice) He still has the truck and will ask his father and grandpa about it today and get back with me. I'm hoping they take my offer and I'll go get it Friday. If not, then I'm going to sweeten the deal a couple hundred and see what happens.
I also told them no rush just let me know when they had taken care of the family situations. Sounded bad....the next couple days would/could be the end.

Got my fingers crossed for you Alvin, that is tough with their situation, keep us posted!

Whew, this thread is starting to get long.....
Ended up calling the guy tonight and the guy said he didn't think his grandfather would take a 1000. I told him I would go 1200 and come get it. That's my "final offer". He, or his grandpa is suppose to call me tomorrow.
At this point, if they want my money fine, if not, I'm moving on to a '69 fleetside I've been chasing. I ain't fiddle farting around any more. Time to move forward, right !!

Some folks are way to difficult to deal with. I've tried to buy old rides from people that wanted way too much money. They think they have a golden goose. Next thing you know, they've sold it to someone else for half the money. Or, it just sits and rots. Makes no sense.

.....no word today. Right now I don't really care. I don't "have" to have it but I would love to save it!!

BRUCE.....the guys father called me this afternoon. I think he wanted to chat a while to see if I would make a good owner??!

Finally I had to ask, are you going to sell it to me for what I offered. He said YES !!

Chatted awhile about the title. It is a Ga. title but this guy lives just across the line into S.C. If his dad can get a duplicate, then transfer it to his son in S.C. that would make my job waaaay easy. I told him I'd pay the fee to get the proper paper work. Getting a S.C. title without paper work is impossible for a regular individual.

So, I guess I will be joining the ONE TON guys a little more. I will probably go Monday, but probably next Friday and get it.
Title or not, for 1200 bucks I think its worth it and I can probably "find" a title IF I have to.

Yay !!!!!!! Good for you Alvin ! Can't wait for some pics. Got a soft spot for the One Ton'ers.

Thanks guys. "Daniel" is working on finding the title or getting a duplicate...or whatever they have in Georgia now days. He is to call when he finishes his work at the DMV and then I'll boogie on down and pick it up.

Talked to the guy tonight. He has been sick with the flu but says he will check on stuff at the DMV there and get back with me.
I have about 5 or 6 pictures but NONE of the right side. I ask about the right side tonight and he confirmed what his son had told me and that was that the passenger side window was not there and that's why a piece of plastic had been put over it.
I ask if that side was beat up?? He said no but the bottom of the cowl had a rust through spot. (meaning outer cowl repair which may be the entire piece or maybe just the bottom part?)

After a little discussion, and honest conversation he basically said he would "help me out on the price" after told him all three of the cowl panels would be about 200 bucks plus labor!

He mentioned if the title situation turned out to be a bust that someone had wanted to buy it basically as yard art. I'm still fine with buying it, at a reduced price but without any legal paper work it ain't coming to S.C....or rather to my shop.
I should know something before the weekend. I'm not getting my hopes up and I'm OK either way!!

Finally called the guy about picking up the one ton along with THE TITLE..... Said they sold it a week ago for the original asking price. I told that was OOOK with me. I didn't even ask if he found the title. I knew the answer to that question!

I'll move forward. Still thinking about the '56 2dr coupe just up the road!!

Well moving on is part of this hobby for sure. I had two 54's escape me as well this week.

.... my friend who runs a 5 bay garage, sells tires and does line-ups tried to sell me one cheap today. Dag nap it, now I have some irons in the fire..but its there if I decide to go for it. I've seen it but its been at least a year and its in fairly bad shape compared to the one in Ga. I'll "wait my turn" and something will show up.
(I'm still drooling over the 56 2dr couple right now)
