GMC built trucks far in excess of the capacity of their Chevrolet cousins. 3000 thru 4000 : 216.5 THRIFT-MASTER (90HP @ 3100 RPM - Torque= 174@1200-2000 rpm)
5000: 235.5 LOAD-MASTER (90 hp @ 3100 rpm - Torque= 189 @ 1000-1900 rpm)
6000: 235.5 LOAD-MASTER (93 hp @ 3100 rpm - Torque= 192 @ 1000-1900 rpm)
Obviously the bigger trucks had bigger engines but the 6000's must have been "tweaked" just a tiny bit. A little larger truck would have a 248 in it. But you never know what someone may have installed in it during the past 70 years. '37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

I just bought a 1949 GMC 350(2 ton)flat bed with dump hoist. It is all original from Southern Pacific Railroad. It has a 228 CID in it. I checked the numbers on the block...
If the truck was built in Canada it could have a Chevy 216 in it.
Need to see picture of engine.
As suggested above check numbers on block that will end any confusion.
