If it is a 300 series it probably will be a 228 CID. Else it is a GMC 216 (not Chevy 216).

I just bought a 1949 GMC 350(2 ton)flat bed with dump hoist. It is all original from Southern Pacific Railroad. It has a 228 CID in it. I checked the numbers on the block...

If the truck was built in Canada it could have a Chevy 216 in it.

Need to see picture of engine.

As suggested above check numbers on block that will end any confusion.
