I am thinking about swapping my 216 out and putting in a 230 .Mounts are not a problem, but what about the bellhousing, will it work?

250 is next generation after your stock motor, all different. Good news is that the 230 is same bellhousing as a V8 so easy to find tranys to fit that, motor mount kits are around to fit the side 230 block mounts. Try Chassis Engineering for mounts.

Thats what I thought, but was not completely sure. I have a 230 engine that has been sitting for over 30 years in the barn.I also have a bell housing for it.I am not sure about a flywheel and pressure plate,I may have that to,will have to look.I would like to do 2 carberator set up,and don't think I want to spend that much money on the 216.i don't want to use a small block v8 It seems thats what everyone does and would like to do something a little different. How does the 230 compare to a 235,is the power the same.Is one better than the other?

The 230 is more modern than the 235 is. Torque was more on the 230 (for some reason) at 220 lb/ft. The 235 got to 215 lb/ft. on the 1959-62 versions. 235 has 4 main bearings, 230 has 7 main bearings.
Of course the 230 is a short stroke engine vs the 235 is a long stroke engine.

John
