And would like to know what you stovebolter thought and if you would buy something like that. No resisters no math just decide what you need to be 6V and what needs to be 12V.

Will it be clean enough to run a radio and provide enough current to power a heater fan?

Okay that would mean it's clean enough to run an old six volt tube type radio. How well regulated is it? Does it put out enough power to run a heater motor? What is it going to cost?

How dose it regulate? Well the basic is a zener but it is not that simple.
The prototype is set up so that you could have 200 AMPS going thru it but you are limited to your alternator.
Price I don’t know what it will be for sure but the currant price is looking like about $150 to $175 but I do not know until after I'm dun with UL.

I don't need to know enough to try to duplicate your effort (as if I could).
How do you intend to market this device? How will the manufacturing be handled?

Well I plan on marketing it in classic car magazines and auto shows it will be small to start I have some venders already interested. Manufacturing well the casing will be out sourced by a plastics manufacture out of Gastonia, NC and the electronics and assembly will be dun in house I will add a sub deviation to me elc. RD firm. If you wont to know about my back round I just received my PHD in elc. Engineering from the university of MN. I started out in the elc design industry doing testing for Medtronic’s 8 yr ago and started my own firm 3 yr ago.

Why would you even want something that could provide both voltage outputs? Why not one or the other? Its just simple to either go with 6 volt or go with 12 volt. No math is involved. All of my 6 volt equipment works wonderfully which is why I see no need to change any of it. Also upgrading to 12 volt is simple in itself. ???

I think that's a fair question, but I also think there are some reasonable responses. If you want to run a modern radio and enjoy the often better starting 12 volts gives you, this approach would let you do just those few things, and not worry about changing all the lights, heater and fuel guage. The only reason I'd do this would be to get my fuel guage right and run an original radio while enjoying 12-volt starting and headlights. But the truth is I'm not likely to do because a full conversion to 12 volts is likely to be cheaper and the advantages of running anything on 6 volts are not likely to change my mind.

I guess I would rather go with 1 system and have it regulated across the board without change. It just seems like over complicating an other wise simple task.
Just my thoughts. | | |

You would need more than 2X amps from 6 to 12 inversion unless you have 100% efficiency, however, items running off 12 volts only require 1/2 the current for the same wattage, so you're only out the efficiency loss.
The only reason I can see to have a split system is if one wanted to have an original look, but hidden 12 volt devices.

I suspect the problem with this product is that not many people will be willing to pay more than the cost of a modern radio for a device that allows them to run the old radio and guages.
I find the engineering interesting. But making money requires understanding the market too.

I developed it because I don’t know how many times I have put a post working some one throe ohms law so they could use some 6V devises or iv seen cars with resisters soderd on to something well this all works but why bother with resister on lights and radios and just have something that will do the wok for you. I’m just doing market research.
