I think that's a fair question, but I also think there are some reasonable responses.

If you want to run a modern radio and enjoy the often better starting 12 volts gives you, this approach would let you do just those few things, and not worry about changing all the lights, heater and fuel guage.

The only reason I'd do this would be to get my fuel guage right and run an original radio while enjoying 12-volt starting and headlights.

But the truth is I'm not likely to do because a full conversion to 12 volts is likely to be cheaper and the advantages of running anything on 6 volts are not likely to change my mind.
