Brad, that looks like a 1954 Arm and blade. Can a 1954 out side arms and blades be used on 47-53 trucks?

I bought new 47-53 wiper arms and blades but the blades seem very very loose on the arms. Is this normal?

I installed 54 arms and blades on my 52 because they are a better setup.

By new if you mean reproduction I would imagine that may explain the loose fit.

I have the original 1948 wiper arms but reproduction blades. The blades are very very loose.

I got 1954 wiper arms and blades but the blades make slight contact with the center division bar AND the arm angle is not the same as the 47-53 wiper arms.

Anyone have photos of 1954 wiper arms on a 47-53?

The blades do fit rather loosely on the arms. You're probably
expecting them to clip on like the ones on your new cars
Red.....but that's the way the original ones were.
As Pete posted, here's the way the '54 blades and arms fit:

If the 47-53 wiper blades are really that loose, then I need to change to the 1954 style. I spent a lot of time and money on making my wiper system electric with delay. For those interested in my set-up:

Denny, thanks for the photos of the 1954 arms and blades.

I am considering drilling out the two rivets on each arm and shorting the arm by a small amount (1954 arms). I'm now searching for the same type of stainless steel rivets that are used in the arms. I would feel better if there were a little more clearance between the blades and the center bar.

..... I THINK one of the problems we MIGHT be seeing is that some aftermarket ARMS are straight. That causes the arm to sit at somewhat an angle on the windshield. The 54 arms have a bend in them which will lay the blades down flat on the bottom of the windshield.
....anything to this for you guys are is it just me?!

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
