So in all my searching I haven't found any specific threads about rebuilding a dump bed or completely replacing one. Do most people just put on a flatbed and call it good.

What part of the bed needs rebuilding? The box the ram or the sub frame???
There are so many different manufacturers that for the most part it is a mater of fabrication.

I've done both the rebuilding and replacing many times and may be of some help to you. Roy is correct about it usually being a fab job and it's not likely to be a straight off with the old and on withthe new which would be too easy.

Give us more detail and pictures or a thorough desdcription of what your needing.

First of all it is not a dump bed. It is a wooden platform body with a hoist. Big, big difference. Not to make a big deal out of terminology but we might as well start by being correct.

Secondly, yes just replace the platform body. If you choose to make one then you've already got the pattern in front of you and it coule be built from kiln dried white oak for the structure and dense southern YP for the floor. Use screws and bolts and please..no nails.

Same desigbn will work if you use steel and the longsills should be 7/8" C channel, crossmembers can be structural 3-4" channel or fabricated channel. Use the dimensions on the current wooden body.

Are you sure your bed is shot? I thought mine was rough but I have had no problems filling, and dumping it.

For what I need its shot. The wood is missing chunks and it can be broken by hand. There is thin sheet metal covering the holes. The posts that go through the bed to hold the sides up is rotten and rigged back together. 53moneypit do you have pictures of the different parts. I can see replacing the platform, which I'm assuming is the actual deck, but the lower part that holds the ram itself looks like its cracked length wise. Only way to tell anything is to rip it off and see how bad it is. Just wanting to do research and make sure I don't kick myself in the [censored].

Probably build one. I want to keep it stock looking but modern. Still keep the 14'x8' with removeable 4' sides and keep the dump. I just think that I need to build from scratch. Just looking for pictures, ideas, problems I may run into, cost things like that
