I'm thinking it's gonna be easiest to put a straight 6 back in. Option 1 is a parts car I have. 53 chevy 210 sedan with 3spd (big plus, I already have it)Would I be able to keep the torque tube and rear? Option 2 is a mid 70's straight 6 and mate it to a 700R4 and s-10 4x4 rear end. What would you guys do? Thanks

If you do much running on interstate then go with option 2.

However if you're doing it anyways, it wouldn't be much more work really to put whatever you want in it. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | If the 53 has it's original engine it would be the last year for the splash 235. Although it is a good engine it is not what most people use. If it is a good runner you could run the rest of it's life out of it and watch for a full pressure 235. If it is the original splash 235 it will have the kidney been shaped cover, held on with three screws, seen just below where the exhaust dumps in this picture.

I think if it does run decent still, Id rather use it up and "upgrade" later. Would the 53 have basically the same trans in it as the 41?

You will have to solve that too. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 12 | which pedals? clutch? any suggestions on mounts?

Pedal Mounting You will see where he discusses the mounting of the brake and clutch pedals. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | Are you planing to use the Power Glide or stay with the stock trans? If staying with the stock trans you will use the stock engine and trans mounts and 41 bellhousing.

To that I can bolt on any 216, 235 or 261. Behind that bellhousing with an adaptor I can run any modern stick shift trans. You can go any route you want but for me this has worked out great. Now running a T-5, engine is 261, plenty of power for these light weight trucks. Best of luck. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 12 | If I had the stock bell housing, Trans and or motor I'd be going that route for sure. All that stuff went when previous owner sold motor and years ago.

I may have found a 700r4. if I use the cast iron power glide to start mocking the motor up, is the 700 any larger or smaller on the back side? I've got to make custom mounts so I wanted to get started on something.

If you go that route you will end up making more work for yourself. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,596 | The bellhousing bolt pattern on the cast iron powerglide is even unique. As don stocker said, you'll just be making more work by setting up with the powerglide. If you're using a 700 wait until you secure one to make the mounts and all for it. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | You can go two directions here, keep original bellhousing and crossmember, adapt to modern stick trans and 235 motor. OR lose that crossmember and custom fabricate all your engine and trany mounts.
Also the adapter just to bolt up a modern automatic to a 235 runs around $400.
