I'm currently running a Carter YF 966S on my truck. The main jet has the markings 120/162. The low speed idle tube has the markings 11-232S on the top. I just rebuilt a Carter YF 2100S with main jet markings of 120/164 and low speed idle tube marking of 10.

I'm not sure if these markings have anything to do with jet diameter size. However, they are both fine carbs for the 1956 235 inline.

I would like to change over to dual Carters. Are these two compatible based on the model numbers and jets?

You need the exact same carbs, jetted and set the exact same. There are lots of differences in design of carbs even though they look and perform the same. On a dual setup, both have to work the same or half the engine cold be slight rich or lean from the other half. It makes tuning very difficult when you are working against each other.

The Carter numbers indicate size, so yes, they are different.

The general rule FOR BEST RESULTS is to use the exact carburetors with the exact same calibration.

Now the question is, will what you have work? Probably, but so will hiring a 15 year-old to stand on the running board and pour fuel into the engine out of a leaky boot!

Will it work as well as you want it to? Depends on the skill of the 15 year-old or in the case of two different carbs it would depend on your access to a chassis dyno, a machine shop, and your skill as a tuner.

Would I do it? No.

And while there are no 966s or 2100s currently on ebay, there have been several of each sold in the last month. You can match either with a little patience.

Both work great separately. But I get what you're saying regarding calibration differences and performance if used together. No leaky boots or 15 year olds around here either.
