on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 148 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 148 | I'd like to find some smaller main jets for these carbs. I imagine they were jetted for sea level and we live at 2800-3000 ft. in Tucson. Tom thought they could go a little leaner but he didn't have any jets. I have been looking around and haven't found any yet. Anybody with these carbs found a supplier?

AAARRRGGG, you said LEANER--I misread-well thats my two cents anyway! some of it is still true--It would be nice to have a pair of "back-up" jets before you experimented too much. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 | Sharon,
What exactly is the problem with yours? I have these carbs and live at 2500 ft. My truck runs fine but has been overheating. I may have cured that in other ways but I'm curious about what problem you are having | | | | | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 148 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 148 | Well Dogface I just wanted to see if I could get a little better mileage. Currently at 13.5. Tailepipe is black. The mixture screws seem to work. You can run them in and the motor starts to stumble back them out until smooth and a vacuum reading of a steady 18". The truck runs great. Heat soak is a problem when you have to restart after sitting for 10 to 45 minutes in this hot Tucson weather.Possibly float level too high. You guys are great, always with the great answers. "edski" dont worry I may have asked that question Too.

As far as I know the tailpipes on my truck have always been black, but I have only had it for 30 years, however once I install the same setup as you have (I'm in the process of polishing the intake, I sure wish I had spent the money on one already polished) I'll let you know, I live at sea level basically. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | If those are the Carter-Weber (Motorcraft 740) carbs used on the 1300cc Ford engines, Tom Langdon provided me information about 5 years ago on where to obtain different sized jets. I did not want to mess with the very well behave carburetors, so I never obtained the jets. Maybe someone can confirm that 73405 is the C-W 32 DFT (Motorcraft 7400) jet part number? If it is, different jet sizes are available here. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 | Not at all sure I get 13mpg...or ever did. Mine over heats but it's not cuz of the carbs. If you go too lean yours may get hot. Been to Tucson many time in summer...I'd need AC but you may be used to it. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | If you got the carbs from Tom I'd give him a call re. smaller jets. He sent me the ones I needed on my Holley-Webers. I got 12 MPG at 65-70mph (about 2600 RPM). Higher RPMs and wind-resistance take their tolls.

It floods really bad when you go into a store for a 1/2 hour and try to restart it. Do I introduce myself on the homepage?

That is below the Fed Minimum and I generally have little use for the Fed's. But you must make enough to live on and buy old truck parts. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 148 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 148 | Yeah it's just a part time job with the Red Cross at the air base.
