I'm attempting to restore my 1948 Chevy 2 ton COE as original as possible. I just purchased a new throttle cable, the cable was missing so, I have no idea how it was originally installed. The only thing I do know is that it did not attach to the carburetor.

Does anyone have a photo or a diagram of the original cable/linkage?

hi,Coegirl1 welcome to "stovebolt.com"!! I don't know for sure,since mine's a '55 T.F. conventional. I assume that your truck is equipped with an up--draft carb.? The way that the cable is set-up on mine, is left and above the radio delete plate,left of the wiper knob. Cable feeds through the firewall,in-line with the dash opening. on the BACK,of MY carb.,there's a mechanism that both throttle,and gas pedal cable are attached to. There is also a hole,to accomodate the return-spring for the pedal cable. Look for a fitting that looks like a little cube. (Identical to your pedal cable). It has a hole through the center of it. It should have a screw,in the side,to adjust the throttle cable. Run your wire through the cube,and tighten the screw,when you're happy with the setting. Hope this helps.

That COE setup, will be different from a LCF. I've owned both type trucks. On the COE, your throttle cable will decend down from the hood side of the cowl, down to a tab, that is part of the accelerator assembly. From that point you should have a throttle rod that is attached to the assembly, that goes down to the carburetor. When the throttle cable is pulled the assembly swivels, in turn causing the rod to pull the carburetor to open throttle. Hope I haven confused you.

Here is a picture that is a little hard to understand, because the parts are tucked in between the radiator and firewall.

The throttle cable goes from the upper left to lower center. There is a tab with a hole in the center attached to the rod that attaches to the carb. The cable goes through the hole and is kept in place by a cable stop. Notice that the cable attaches to the left side of the throttle bracket that is attached to the firewall. The silver thing in the center is the brake light switch.
