This is in my new 54 Chevy 4400 series. It does not have the sloted vent holes in the valve cover like in my '54 Chevy 3100. I'm thinking it might be newer, maybe car engine, blue paint.
Any help will be appreciated.

F is for Flint engine plant. 01 stands for January. 26 is the day it was built. J stands for a 235. As far as I can tell, '61 and '62 had the same numbers. Hope this helps,

The engine casting number should be the seven digit number on the block between the distributor and fuel pump. Yours is most likely 3769716. I'll check it again tommrow. I'm in the middle of running new brake lines and getting it ready for State DMV inspection.

Stamped numbers behind distributor is

Tell me if I am correct that according to the casted numbers, the block was casted Feb 26, 1962 and the stamped numbers is saying Flint plant assembled Feb 28. I assume same year 1962.
If J = 235, what does the C represent?
More interesting is how close the casted date is as compared to the stamped date. Did they actually assemble the engine 2 days after the block was casted? Since the stamped date does not have an actual year (as far as I know) maybe it wasn't assembled in '62.
Who can explain this? Who has the knowledge? Who cares? :confused:

As for the "C", it's combined with the "J" to make it "JC", which means it's a 235 c.i., 135 h.p.,1 BC or a 1 BD carb equipped, 8.25:1 comp. ratio, 3 or 4 speed equipped truck engine. The "JB" engine could of had the powerglide behind it. That's what my book says anyway,
