After browsing the stovebolt pages for the past three months and I decided to tackle my first project, changing the rear main seal. After dropping the oil pan I was looking in the bottom to see if any sludge had built up and I found this metal clip, see pic? (Don't know the Chinese word for the French word sabotage). Maybe previous mechanic was cleaning that piece on his bench grinder with a wire wheel on it and it flew off like half of everything I try to clean up on one of those "parts slingers" and ended up inside the disassembled engine. I'll bet he is still wondering where it went.

Works like a toggle bolt.

My only problem where it came from? The oil plug was not stripped and the draft tube is still installed. Well I guess I will continue on with the rear main seal and not worry about it for now.

So many rebuilders throw all the parts they have to every engine in one pile. This is perfectly fine but mabe they guy filled the pan with parts and did not get them all for some reason. If you are throwing all your parts in one pile like that always make sure you have everything. If I were you I would pull the valve cover and side cover just in case there are more surprises. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,747 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,747 | My money is that it got caught under the sheet metal baffle and was just over looked. Never got in the way of any thing moving so lucky you. Put a nail through it and hang it on the wall to remind you to look at every thing before you install it. You can learn from the other guy's mistake and not have to pay the admission price.
