Got the motor in today , the BH bolts are in then realized I dont have all the front mounts .Looks like they are 4 pieces I have 3 , missing the top 1 , will order it Mon. then started with manifold , should never read instructions , first thing it said was , you must seperate them ,ok got the 2 nuts off , had to grind off the heads on the bolts , able to get one the other broke off , ease out no good , had to grind down flat drill out and tap...

bunch of progress since last check in. Motor and tranny are in. Big block wired, plumbed and started, what a beast! driveline made and installed with all new u-joints. both new electric fans installed, inner fenders painted as well as core support. Doghouse is going back on this weekend and exhaust will be done in the next week or so. Took it for a quick "test run" to the end of the block and back, all systems check! Can't wait to drive it on a regular basis again!

finally got my new steering wheel installed [55 Bel Air ]

Installed the manifold today, could only torque the outside bolts (not enough room to torque the inside bolts)guessed at the rest ..now I know why they have to be seperated , was not a great fit....

Finished the wiring, started from the seat. All of the guages work. HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY

Just finish clear coating my 52 steering wheel.I
decided to restore my original one. To save money, so
I could spend on other items, like a new radiator,
clutch, brake shoes.etc.Actually steering wheel was in good shape. It only took three days, I already had
the basecoat-clearcoat paint and the two part epoxy.
just labor.

Changed flexible fuel lines. Went to adjust front brakes and the right front outer wheel bearing was bad. Called O'Reilly, Napa, Advance, no luck. LMC is about 28 miles from me, city counter open 7 days a week. Got the bearing and installed it this evening.

Flushed the block...not much crud there...at least now I know,...

Ordered a water outlet gasket and a Thermostat housing gasket from NAPA. Be here tomorrow. Total bill.....$2.80

I know I haven't posted in a while. I'm still plugging away at my '59 project!
I wanted to pop in and mention that I cranked the 261 on the dolly this past weekend. The engine... wow. I tore it down, not expecting what I found. There were no ridges in the cylinder tops and the bores met factory standard size! I only had to hone!
The crank mains and rod journals... standard size with no mentionable wear on any of the bearings!
I did lap the valves and put in new seals. I also replaced the water pump... the seal was shot.
I rebuilt the Rochester Carburetor too... it works like a champ now.
Forgive me that I'm bragging... I know I'm a Texan but man I'm just excited after all this time, to be able to sing out about my progress. The engine was a major benchmark!
All I have to do is work the gas lever on the carb and hit it. It fires right off like it's excited to be awakened after all these years.
I'm still not there, the cab is still on a dolly in the garage, the driver door needs to be assembled, the entire truck needs to be assembled... but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! I'll be looking into paint and final assembly soon enough!

finally got around to installing my mechanical back up alarm on the firetruck, ball bearing bell that attaches to the hub on the passenger side. Cool!

Next the TV camera. lol

Wiring continues. Fuel tank was reinstalled. All I need to do is update the distributor connector, add gas and crank. Maybe tomorrow??

Removed the water pump for inspection & servicing last night since I already had the radiator out & the hose neck off. Now I guess would be a good time to flush out the block.

Aarrggghhh. One step forward, two steps back. Ran in to a Delphi connector snafu on the distributor. So, I gotta fix that. The tool is at work so later today. More wiring done. While I was trying to figure out the wiring, I started installing the drivers inner and outer fender. Was using some wood to help position stuff, got a nice big sliver in the thumb. I guess it's one of those days. The best laid plans................

Mark, just remember, there are folks having it rougher than you. I was the one today and it didn't even have anything to do with Stovebolts!! I wish it had

I got the engine fired up and running tonight after it sat for 20 plus years. I just brought this 1935 Chevy 1 1/2 ton home 3 weeks ago from Kansas. I bought it from a fellow bolter Lowell Hawk.

Adjusted my tie rods last night and went for a drive, saw a good improvement. The passenger side was WAY to loose.

Sprayed primer inside & out on 53 burb front fenders. Then got all the front sheet metal hung back on the burb. Plan on making the "Unrun" Oct 6th with the 53 burb!

new oil pressure guage in, diagnosed sticky needle on battery gauge, and i was surprised at how simple this gauge actually is

Got to back my 46 3800 out of the shop after installing a T-5..
It actually worked and in just backing up and pulling forward I can tell this is going to make a world of difference!

Now onto the floor pan..

I did a few things, measured a few things and broke a few things. Big update in the DITY Forum.

My 4sp tranny complete rebuild now reinstalled. Cooling system all new. Should be back on the road Monday.

put on new starter, seems to have corrected my occasional grind, took it for a spin and filled up with fuel. Gas gauge seemed to be working, now tank is full and gauge isnt, looks like mondays project to install my new sending unit!

Cleaned, repaired, painted, and rewired my headlamp and park lamps assemblies. Hope to have all the wiring completed next week.

Installed a 12lb boost pulley my c-10. Time to terrorize the neighborhood.

leveled out my drag link and got rid of the bumpsteer.Also replaced leaking timing cover oil seal. What a day. Im tired.

Completed bottom side of cab and mounted on chassis. Pulled running board outriggers into proper position as indicated by assembly manual dimensions.

Finally! got something close to done today... next step... get rid of Halo

Finished the metal work on my drivers door. Tomorrow start sanding for primer.

Cut out the last of the rusty bolts that were rattling around on the bed sides and cross sills and I finally mounted my rear bumper.

Installed my head light buckets, started wiring the front lights. I now have parking lights all around. Been polishing a lot of old chrome lately to see if it will shine up some. UPS was giving me grief as I have stuff coming but it hasn't come to my house. Hopefully, I got that resolved! Funny thing is the guy said he hid the stuff in the bushes. 1) I don't have bushes and 2) he would've crushed the yard cat with where he said he put them. I won't argue. He has the right street now. I better see 4 tires on my front porch come Friday!
