Please, somebody tell me that I can rig the two speed differential to high. I'm driving my latest buy from Salina, KS to El Paso, Texas and the first 90 miles has been in low gear. I noticed the hoses were dry rotted and one had come loose so I got some at Autozone and replaced them and got it to shift once. But like a dummy I shifted back to low to see if it was really working and now it's stuck in low again. I'm guessing the diaphragm is shot and I'm hoping somebody knows a trick to shift it to high without using the splitter so I can drive the next 686 miles on high.

Please call me at my hotel if you can assist me in my time of need. (620) 792-8235 room 208. Or reply if the solution is not too involved and can be explained easily.

Raul

What's the difference between an adventure and a nightmare?

The way you see it and the way it affects your pocket book.

I'm staying positive though.

Please, calling all cars!!!

Use a burst of compressed air on the opposite side of the diaphragm.
Go to a service station and ask to use their inside air hose with a nozzle. Remove Both hoses from the lines, not the module. Ear close to the diff. A shot of air in the hose to the Outside of the module (closest to the wheel). Should hear the clonk. If no clonk, try other hose. Try driving it. May have to roll truck a few inches to line things up and try again.
Leave hoses off until you get home.

Jim's advice sounds like something I should also remember.
Let us know how the adventure turns out.

Jim, shouldn't the vacuem lines also be capped off to mantain engine vacuem or does the shift valve, control that?
If you do need to cap the lines, just get a piece of small pipe and hook them back to each other.
Hope this helps and not hinder.

I took it off the differential, switched it manually, then reversed my vacuum lines at the control valve. Seems to be working. Getting ready to take off again.

I did pack my camera, or so I thought. As it turned out it was the rechargeable batteries and charger in the case. My wife had put them in there and didn't tell me. She did manage to take a couple with her phone though. I've read the instructions on how to add links to pics, but still haven't got it. Will add some once I do.

By the way, she didn't make it. After getting stuck in the mud in Great Bend, Kansas and being pulled out by a tow truck we made a hell of a run , 434 miles, from Great Bend, Kansas to Santa Rosa, New Mexico. As I pulled into the gas station the brakes went out. The compressor went south on me. Then the starter shorted out. She's staying there for a week and I'll be towing her home the last 262 miles. After that debacle she's got a name, Lucille, cuz she just won't do her daddy's will.

Sounds like a good candidate for a Saga Submission!

I shall try my hand at writing and see what I come up with for a saga.
