I bought this truck a couple weeks ago and I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I have here. Engine serial number is "EEA" so from what I understand it is a 1947.

I'm also looking for headlight buckets as well and am having a really hard time.
Anyone have any ideas?

EEA is an engine from a 6000 series 1947 truck.

that would be a LOAD-MASTER 235 engine.

So would that make it a 2 ton truck?
Are the headlight buckets the same as the 1/2 ton?

I don't know whether or not you can tell by the engine, I thought it was by the gvw. 14,000 = 1,5 ton and 16,000=2 ton. Is this correct? Close?

I know the truck has 20" 5 lug front wheels and I believe 20" 10 lug rears. I can't find any gvw tags or anything on the cab. I'm not even positive of the year. The 1947's I've seen don't have the bucket style headlights that mine has (or should have since they're missing) so do I have a 1946?

It has the factory reinforcements riveted to the frame and a 2 speed rear axle

The engine serial number is EEA63974I

It's either a '46 or an early '47. The info. plate on my '46 is on the cowl under the right-hand hood side panel. That should have the serial # and the GVW stamped on it. Mine is hard to read, but the info. is there.
A 6000 series is a 2-ton truck. A 1 1/2 ton is a 4000 series.

EEA is a code for a 1947 Advance-Design truck. The 1946 trucks sold in 1947 were registered as 1947 trucks but were referred-to by GM as 1946 trucks.

20" 5 lug and 20" 10 lug wheels were used on 4000-6000 series 1947 Advance-Design trucks. What are the widths of the tires (although, incorrect width tires can be mounted on the wheels)?

Here are 1946 codes.

Is there a metal tag mounted on the cab between the driver's side door hinges?

For the life of me I can not find an actual VIN on the truck itself. I have defreased the cowl, scrubbed it by hand down to clean shiny paint and still can't find a thing. Does anyone have a pic of theirs so I can see where exactly I should be looking?

I checked the door frame too all over. I haven't checked for a rear axle number though. I'll check tonight. Thanks guys!

open the right (passenger) side of the hood. There should be a tag on the side of the cowl.

If this image posts right, you can see it in the lower right. It's the grey looking square plate, just above the fender. It'll probably be hard to read, just spray or wipe it with some oil.

The photos in his first post show what appears to be a '46.

Thanks for the pictures! Unfortunately the only thing in that location on my truck is a few holes where, I'm assuming, the VIN tag was mounted. dang

It is definitely a 1946 body style. That's why I'm also asking about the headlight buckets that go on top of the fenders because it didn't come with any. I may never know what year this poor old truck was made ohwell
Getting a VIN tag for it and registering this truck is going to be a major pain I can ready tell

If it is in fact any early 47, the headlight buckets are obviously the same as a '46 and should be fairly easy to locate. I have heard people in the same situation go out a purchase a junker of the same vintage just to get the vin plate and clean title, maybe even a few parts needed too (headlight buckets??). I am not advising any sort of unlawful activity, I'm just saying, it has been done......Also, when I had my '46 in a million pieces, I never saw any numbers on the frame anywhere. Did they stamp the frames with vin numbers back then? Even if they did and you went to register the truck with a different vin plate would the dmv even know where to look or make the effort? When I register my truck, they took the numbers I had and the title and I was out of there in 15 minutes. I also registered the truck with vintage '46 plates and was surprised how easy the whole process was, especially for the MD.

It would be interesting to see when the block and head were cast. Post the head date casting code and the block date casting code - this might have a 1946 date and will give us more to speculate about.

Do you know what model you have; or, do you want help with that?

I'd love as much help as possible with this haha! I will have to finish degreasing the motor later tonight and see what those other codes are. I only looked for the engine serial number which I found and took pics of...

They had the '47 first and the '47 second series, the first series was the art deco style and the second series was the advanced design

He's got either a '46,or an "early"'47,that resembles the '46,like the '55 1st-Series resembles a '54.
