I was reading on one of your post about early Buick vehicles using felt inside on the top of the valve cover to cut the sound i now have after installing my son-inlaws gift.It looks great but the old cover makes the engine quiet cause it is much thicker Steel. What kind of FELT is this? -Thanks Anyone

Glue some cork to the under side. Felt would work, but make sure it's secure, you wouldn't want it to rub the rockers or you will get fuzzy's all thru the motor.

Hi Joe,

What is the best thing to use to glue cork on to the underside of the valve cover. I have a chrome cover for my 235, that I haven't put on yet.
Thanks John

I wouldn't trust it personally. A glue that softens in heat on an engine that gets hot doesn't sound good to me.

It talks about it in this book Cailfornia Bob's Cheverolet, GMC & Buick Speed Manual, the 1954 edition

Here is what I asked in this forum a little while back. https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthread...lat&Main=131130&Number=887569#Post887569

I would think plain old silicone would hold cork. It holds gaskets pretty well. Really clean and rough up the surface then clean again with alcohol. You should have any problem with it sticking.

Geeze I'd forgotten about those pads, the shop that rebuilt my 30 Chevy motor many years back had those in stock. Joe said, "hey son here's what you'll need for your motor, the Chevrolet KOTEX", as he called them. The pad was soaked in oil for a week then fit over the studs holding valve cover down, seamed to help with noise a bit.

Since the first automobile rolled out of the factory, companies were constantly hawking some kind of gadget.

the really best way would be to get an aluminum cover, if it is really bothering you that much. There is not even a slight chance I would purposely put a foreign object inside my engine. I made an extreme effort to purposely keep them OUT.
