I bought a early model 47 for my son and I to work on for his first truck. We bought it off the second owner who bought it in 1962 and drove it fo 5 years then parked it in a garge until we came along. After we got it home and started planning and after looking at pics online we noticed something wasn't right the bed and rear fenders don't look like all the other 47's. After doing some measuring and research we figured out it is a 53 bed.The spare tire on the side helped us with that. So we are probably going to sell the bed and put the correct one on it "it a shame because the previous owner made this cool fiberglass bed cover for it in the 60's" he likes the 47 fenders. We put a battery in the truck and fired it up so he could here it run and that's as far as we got. As for plans he's going between original and resto-rod. http://s1300.photobucket.com/user/Sparky32474/library/?sort=3&page=1

Welcome to the Stovebolt. Lots of resources here and good guys and gals to help when the going gets rough! Sounds like your one of the lucky ones that can drive and ride while you fix her up!

Good luck and post us up some pics when you can. Also take a look around. I know there are Bolters in Mi.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Welcome to the BOLT. I would be confussed as well. The bed actually looks like a 1954/55 bed. with the flat top rails & the deep bed sides & the tailgte markings. I could be wrong, You shouldn't have any problem selling that one. Also check out MAR-K products out of Oklahoma. Enjoy & keep us posted....

Slick, that's a good observation! Early47, the 54/55 bed is harder to find and should be an easy sell in the right market. Is your truck a 3/4 ton?

I was told its a 1/2 ton. What's the difference? Is it spring count? Also do you have a idea what the bed is worth? I can't find one on stovebolt. Trying to offset cost of the new one.

It is a 1/2 ton bed if there is an indentation in the driver's side rear fender for the spare tire.

Early47, sorry we have gotten off topic (Sometimes we get carried away big_eek) Like Tim says and by looking at your pictures, it's a 1/2 ton. You only have one stake pocket in front of the fender. If you had two, it would be a 3/4 ton or in some case, a long bed 1/2 ton.

We have a great section making a stovebolt bed where we can get into further conversations and the moderator won't kick us out dance.

My guess is that your bed is in good condition with little to no rust , straight fenders and the optional spare tire carrier (hard to find), i would say $250 -$500.

If it has 1954 bedsides (not 55-2nd or later bedsides), those are hard to find.

All sings indicate 54 complete bed. I moved this to the bed forum.
