2-3 miles is hardly enough to let it warm up, let alone get "hotter" - a thermostat sets the minimum temp the motor can run, a 180 is plenty unless 'betsy' is a later model small block wink

If your vehicle is 50 or 60 years old, it will take more than a couple of miles to warm up no matter what kind of thermostat you have. Over 50 years ago when I drove a 50 GMC to school, I used to put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator, but I didn't expect much heat until after a couple of miles.

Most of these old rigs hold way more coolant than newer rigs thus takes more time to get all that coolant up to temp., be it 180 or 195.
