I have what i was told was a 51 1/2 ton truck .
BUt now not sure that it might be a 3/4 ton, as there is no bumper frame bracket on the side of the chassis over the rear axle.And the leaf springs only have 3 leafs.

I have pics to help .

my 1/2 ton frame flares out at the back.By that I mean the back is wider than the front.The rear spring mounts are under the frame
With a 3/4 ton ,the frame rails are the same front to back.The rear spring mounts are on the outboard side of the frame. I hope this helps

Does the truck still have its data plate? If so run it to see, and yes pictures would allow people here to give you their expert opinions. 3 leafs is not typical of 3600 (or 3100 for that matter which should be 8/8) chassis which should have 8 in front and 7 in the rear.

Hy wc54, how many nuts hold the wheels on? Can you supply the serial number from the truck? Niether the 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton have springs that only have three leaves. A picture, as they say, would be worth a thousand words.

New on here so i dont know yet how to post a pic .has 6 wheel nuts . The truck has a 57 , 235 engine now .DEf has 3 springs with shocks that have an air line on them

You have a 1970's version air shock (Gabriel Hijackers nostalgia), from what I can see in the picture you have a 1/2-ton chassis.

Since I haven't dealt with very many of these trucks, the only thing I can say is it's 1950+ frame as the shocks are tubular shocks and not the lever action. From what I can tell the shocks look as though they are going into a stock location and aren't aftermarket made brackets.

Still a bit confused .I have the LMC catalogue . According to their drawings I have the front suspension detail of the 1st series 1/2 ton , but the rear suspension detail of the 3/4 ton. The main difference appears to be the rubber bump stop position

Any way , i have now located a 3/4 ton chassis just 10 miles form me here in england and so intend to swap the 3 leaf springs for the proper 7 leaf set and fit its shocks as well .Will be binning the air shocks!
