I am in the process of purchasing a 1949 Chevy 4100. I guess that's what you guys are calling a big bolt. I would like to get some suggestions on how to read the vin# and maybe some things that I should be looking for when I go to buy the truck (something like common issues and red flags). Of course this truck "ran when I parked it) 8 years ago. It is a complete truck and I know the person I am purchasing it from. Any help would be appreciated.

Great bunch of friends helping one another out. Try turning it over a little by hand after you soak the cylinders over night. ...if you have the Vin# you need to check out the tech tips here. There is a "vin buster" that will probably give you the info you need. If not try the guys in the Big Bolt forum for some guidance.
