Hello, I'm new to the site and not really sure what I am doing!! I am in the process of purchasing a 1949 Chevy 4100. I guess that's what you guys are calling a big bolt. I would like to get some suggestions on how to read the vin# and maybe some things that I should be looking for when I go to buy the truck (something like common issues and red flags). Of course this truck "ran when I parked it) 8 years ago. It is a complete truck and I know the person I am purchasing it from. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Hey, Wreckin'Ball, welcome. I'm pretty sure they all ran when they parked them, maybe seized by now. Just browse around the site, ask questions here and there and you'll be good to go. Good luck.

Welcome Wrecking'Ball YEP I belive that is considered a big bolt. And you are now a bolter. Great bunch of friends helping one another out. Try turning it over a little by hand after you soak the cylinders over night. Good Luck with your project and dont forget to post pic.

Welcome to the Stovebolt,Wreckin'Ball. You are now home!! Lots of knowledge and great folks. The best way to tap this knowledge though is to ask your questions in the most appropiate forum for the best results.

...if you have the Vin# you need to check out the tech tips here. There is a "vin buster" that will probably give you the info you need. If not try the guys in the Big Bolt forum for some guidance.
Good luck on your project. We are here to help...and as ratrods mentioned a picture when you can would be great.

I saw it too. Looks like a good old truck. Hope you can get it running without too much trouble.
