Does anyone know if the torque tube length from a 51 truck is the same or longer that a 37 truck? What other challenges are there as far a mounting when placing a 51 rear under a 37 truck?

Thanks for the help!

I have put a 51 rear under a 40 one ton GMC. I think you need to check the master parts book (can be found online) to double check, but I think the TT will need to be shortened. The other issue can be spline count on the input shaft versus the transmission. That can be easily overcome by using 2 u-joints and making them into one with two differnet spline counts on a given end.

To further help, is this truck short or long bed? What is your transmission?

Short bed.

I need to find the parts to make the u joint with the two different splines.

I addressed this in a private message to you that you have not read.

I'm curious as to why you want to make this change? What are you trying to accomplish?

My understanding is that I can't upgrade the 37 rear to the 3.55 gears.

Yes, Sir, but I'm not sure that a 51 truck has a 3:55 geared rear end. A 51 car with a Power Glide rear axle would be a 3:55 gear, but I think the truck is a 4:11. I could be wrong.....

I believe he is looking into using Patrick's 3.55 conversion for 1/2 ton trucks.

Yes I am.

I have not been able to locate a 49 to 54 powergluide car rear. It seems like the next logical step is to find one to upgrade.

I am between upgrading the rear and doing a T5 swap. That would however significantly change my otherwise stock truck.

It seems many have done the rear upgrade only to later change to a T5. Any experience on this would be appreciated.
