I have my 49 GMC and am upgrading to power steering. I was going to keep the stock column but thought I would see if the column from my donor truck would work. It's a 77 GMC 1/2 ton. Will the column from that work? I have read that the best ones to get are from 70's vans, but might try the one from my 77. Thanks.

Using the original requires cutting the column and shaft and locating a bearing to support the shaft. And then attaching to the end of the original shaft to connect to the new steering box.
My current thought is to look for a way to put the original wheel on a later column. Of course I plan to gain a turn-signal switch, automatic column shift and tilt wheel in the process.
