I got my hands on a Fulton Visor - 800. I like the looks of these old visors but I have not found anybody that has put one on a 41-46 body style. So I tried.....it's on (but not screwed in yet). I figured I would test fit it first. If I end up using it, the side brackets will need to be modified so they don't interfere with the door and I will need to fabricate new center brackets that are long enough. The side brackets in the photos are fully extended and I kind of like the angle.

I didn't dawn on me until it was installed that, with the center brackets, the visor would prevent the windshield from being cranked open. Not sure I like that at all!

Hmmmm......what do you think?

To be honest, it looks too flat. The roof on those trucks has a nice curve and the visor kinda fights it in my opinion.
...also, not being able to open the windshield would be a deal breaker for me.

x2. Doesn't flow with the lines and that windshield needs to be able to show it's stuff off

Different strokes I guess. smile I had to fabricate a longer center bracket for the Fulton on my '38 as well. I don't like the low front sleepy sombrero look either. I guess the deciding factor is whether you want to open the windshield or not. One thing is it's not permanent. If you mount it and decide in the future you want the windshield to open you can always remove it. Four small holes in each door jamb to plug and they are out of sight with the doors closed.

It'd be interesting to see what it would look like with a bit more curve to it. Shouldn't be too hard to reshape it a little ...just adding a center support might even do it.

I tend to agree with the thought that the inability of opening the windshield makes it a deal breaker. I will likely be posting two Fulton Visors for sale in the next couple weeks.

Very nice carryall! I think it looks very stylish. To bad the windshield in those years wasn't stationery. These Visors are getting harder to find. It took me quite a long time to find the right one to fit my 51 Chevy pickup.
Wonder if a person did a mockup using masonite material to do some research and development. Maybe it would be just a matter of adding lenghth to some of the fastener points. Would be real nice to make it work. Whatever the outcome, Good luck.

Sheridan, I think that visor looks awesome on your suburban (even with a different patina than the truck).

It's too bad not being able to open the windshield is a deal breaker for you. Could you not fab up something so that you're able to? It seems like only the center mount would be in the way of opening the windshield?

I too think it looks cool and may think harder about how I could fabricate a center support bracket that is adjustable. Maybe it is time to put that engineering degree to use in developing something. I LOVE driving it with the windshield open and would not give that up.

My brand new Vintage Truck magazine shows a 46 with a visor on it. Not sure if it's the same kind as yours, and no details about how it is mounted.

I just took a look and it appears he mounted it much higher on te roof. The side brackets are mounted at the top of the doors vs on the top/front of the door. It sets the visor back considerably on the roof.

Tim, just my 2 cents worth, but I think the truck looks great without the visor. My '40 had a visor with it when I bought it, but it had been removed by the PO. I checked it out, but decided to sell it. I like to open the windshield...but, just watch out for those nasty bugs and bird stuff!!!
