Hey guys! My name is Chad. I just put down a deposit on what will be my 1954 Chevy 3100. I am 17 years of age and love classic cars. I am in auto shop and love learning how to do mechanical work. I wanted something of my own to put those skills to use on. I live in Arizona which is a great place to live for rust-free cars. It does run, drive, and stop with a 235 inline 6 under the hood. I'll be looking for some tips and pointers as I go along on this build. There is already a great wealth of knowledge and tips here. Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum, Chad.

I'm partial to '54s, too. Looks like you found a really good truck. The wide whites look great! The major parts are there and look straight. The best part is "rust free." Little things like headlight bezels and parking lights are available from most suppliers.

Whether you want to hot rod / customize or want to keep it original - my best advice is to not rush in to anything. Research your plans and then sleep on it before you proceed. Of course my hope is that you restore it to original stock condition, especially since it appears to be near stock, now.

Good luck with your new baby.

Thanks to both of you.

Lonnie, I really like your signature. How did you get all the statistics to compose that signature? Are you the original owner or did you get the truck with the original sales receipt? I'm just curious because it's a really neat signature!

Thanks,
Chad

Chad, welcome to the Stovebolt. Its refreshing to see a young man get hooked on these old iron horses. Work on it as you go along. It'll talk to you and let you know what it needs and you'll figure out what you want to do with it.
Do it once, do it right and just think, you could NEVER have any truck payments for the rest of your life and ALWAYS be in style. Around here, with an antque tag, we don't pay county taxes and the $25 "road use fee" so there is some savings as well.

We're all here to help so don't be shy. Keep us posted and be sure to take some pics along the way. We're proud of you.

Chad -

I listed the sources of information for each option shown in my signature, but the forum software would not let me post it. Guess it is too large. I'll send you a PM.

Chad, good to see young blood taking an interest in these old bolts... You have good start with your 54... Looks like you also have a Black & Yellow California plate on the front, do you have then both ?

Seeing that you are in Arizona try to contact Joe at [email protected] for parts...

@Achipmunk Thank you so much. I never really intended to get a Chevy, I just wanted a '56 or older Ford or Chevy Truck. I started looking around at forums and YouTube videos. I saw the video where it's this girl building a 1954 3100 and she refers to how helpful Stovebolt.com was and I have to say, you guys are helpful and sure know how to give a kid a warm welcome. I plan on being one of the 50 year old guys who kept his high-school vehicle and for me it would be this truck. Thanks!

@54John3100 Thank you very much!

@healingbear Yes, I do have both 1963 California plates. It lived in Southern CA for most of its life before being brought to Arizona. It is rust free. Thanks for the contact, I will try to get in touch with Joe for parts. Yeah, I just really wanted a 56 or older truck, Chevy or Ford. When this popped up on the internet, it had to be mine. Come to find out many people like these trucks and a lot of people think I have the coolest vehicle at school. Not bad for the measly price I paid compared to the $20,000 Mustangs and BMW's people's parents are buying them. I know how to add a signature, I was just asking about his cool signature.

I tried one final time to copy and paste the process that I used to document my truck as shown in my "cool signature." The forum software still would not accept it, so I emailed the info to Chad.
