I am looking to put 40's Chevy hub caps (baby moon type) on my 1942 1-1/2 ton big bolt truck. The wheels are 20" with 5 lugs in the front and 10 lugs in the rear. Would like ideas on how to mount them with out falling off. Does anyone know if hup caps came on the big bolts of that eara. Thanks!!!! for any help. You can e-mail me at [email protected] or call 1-262-392-2989.

There were Hubcaps available, for GMC Big Bolts, back in the 30's, & 40's. Never seen any for the Chevrolets.

Marvin, a friend of mine here mounted hub caps to his two-ton Ford by making clips for the caps and mounting them to the axle hub bolts.

They look great.

You can get rhe clips at most of the Petro truckstops, as they are used on the hub caps for the steer axles or any place else that sells chrome goodies for semis, i.e. Peterbilt, KW, Freightliner

I added 47-53 Chevy 3/4 ton hub caps to my 1942 one and half ton panel truck and they really make the truck look great. Can send pictures if you like and also tell you how it was done. 1-262-392-2989 or [email protected]

Yes, we are working on this Tech Tip now!! It was in the July pile but didn't make it. So, it's in the hopper now. I just have to sort thru Marv's pix. He did a great job with the details. Once I get it all together, I'll post it in here.

Okay, this is still in draft. I need some help from John to sort a few things out. I'm not certain if my pictures are in the right order and all.

But here, take a look and let me know what may be missing. Marvin can give us more details if we need it. I think the images are great, I wasn't sure if we needed more detail (what I need John ... or YOU ALL ... for!)

Good ... cool.

Thanks,
Peg

Marv,

I really like this idea, I am a little confused on them being deep enough to cover the axle on the rear, and unfortunately the pictures dont enlarge so I cant get a better look...

I am on the search for a set of caps now!

The GMC big truck hubcaps that were available back in the day, were deep enough to cover most of the axle hub. I have one front axle cap, & one rear axle cap.

Well, hello fellas.

Oh man. I was pulling out old Gallery folders and came across a note about Marvin's Gallery page. It was included with some info about his Tech Tip and the baby moons.

Welllllllllll, the Tech Tip never really got past a draft. Sigh. No real surprise here. dang This has happened in the past (hence, I don't toss emails until I know they are done).

So Marvin's idea from 2007 and 2011 is now hopefully coming on board in 2014. Sounds like a typical rebuild, eh?

I just wondered if you all could check this draft of the tech tip and let me know if it needs any more explanation.

It never got past the draft since the permissions were goofed up on the server to click for a larger view. Paul is going to fix that asap.

But let me know about the other details.

Thanks,
Peg
