My '40 has a slight smoking problem during acceleration, indicating worn rings. Not ready to tear it apart, so I bought some "motor honey" to try... anyone used this? Is it any good, or a waste of $$$? Thanks.

I've used "Restore"for high milege engines.Stopped blowby.I've tried Lucas products also.Works fine.I'm not sure what product you are talking about

I'm surprised that stuff is still around. I used it over 30 years ago.At least I was throwing less money away using then, stuff's snake oil like all the other "rebuild in a can" products

....I'll just say that not long ago I took up some of the "offers" on the cans and ask for the test credentials and the how the test were run. In plain english it was a joke. The reports they sent back was a shame. The bottom line is they look for the smallest improvement then they can say it does improve without lying.
I did this on about 4-5 including some that are mentioned. Send for the info and read for yourself what I'm telling you.

Thick oil, motor honey, stp, or stop smoke, all do help to control smoking, to an extent. It is just a band aid though.

I used stop smoke in my bus before I got around to the ring job.

I should have just done the ring job in the first place. I found some NOS rings on ebay for $40, it also gave me a chance to lap the valves and replace the valve seals too. My bus was using quite a bit of oil..... A quart per 100 miles...... Hahahha

If'n yer truck only smokes a bit, the goo might help.

Oil thickeners (and products that swell seals), and thick oil, will quiet a motor down (soundwise) it can slow the smoking from burning oils, they also can rapidly accelerate vital parts wearing because they are simply too thick and do not flow readily (especially on start-up, and also note how your piston wrist pins get oiled). Those products hide the symptoms , they "mask" the problems.

You do not get something for nothing with those products, no such thing as a free lunch, sorry no miraculous cure in a tin can.

If your motor doesn't run right (smokes, knocks) etc with a good grade 10W-30 oil (10W good for lube on start-up) then like Mr. Lang says your just putting on a band-aid ... but one that could worsen the overall wear.

Been bending wrenches 25 yrs-never seen "mechanic in a can" work as advertised.
