Has anyone ever heard of an overdrive unit for these old trucks? Mine seems to be all it wants to be at about 45 mph. I do have a 4 speed in it now with a working power take-off. Looking for information and parts if anyone has either.

An auxiliary is another option, but they are heavy and take up a lot of room. You may can get a later 3/4 ton third member to bolt into your banjo housing. I am not that familiar with interchangeability of 40's Chev. Around 50 MPH is probably all the horsepower and brakes you have anyway. | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 60 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 60 | My Dad who is 88 and was young when that truck was new says . And I paraphrase 45MPH was scary fast comin or goin on them roads back then .

The biggest bang for your buck is to change the rear gear. You will sacrafice pulling and hauling power for speed but these older trucks usuall don't see the work they used to.
Post which driveline you have so we can get started. Post links to pictures if you can too!
