I am the proud owner of a 1941 Chev model 1434 1 Ton.
Has anyone ever heard of an overdrive unit for these old trucks? Mine seems to be all it wants to be at about 45 mph.
I do have a 4 speed in it now with a working power take-off.
Looking for information and parts if anyone has either.

Thanks in Advance

There was a 5 speed Clark with OD that will fit, but then you would need a different PTO. An auxiliary is another option, but they are heavy and take up a lot of room. You may can get a later 3/4 ton third member to bolt into your banjo housing. I am not that familiar with interchangeability of 40's Chev. Around 50 MPH is probably all the horsepower and brakes you have anyway.

Do you have an open or closed driveline? There are options for both. The biggest bang for your buck is to change the rear gear. You will sacrafice pulling and hauling power for speed but these older trucks usuall don't see the work they used to.

Post which driveline you have so we can get started. Post links to pictures if you can too!

i can get 50+ out of mine easily with the 228 or the 270 with a 4:56 timkin rear. your out of motor. like cris asked what rear you got? i have a brownie jr od on mine but just took it off due to the noise it makes. i think an overdrive is not worth the gain vs the costs of engineering and installing it these days. i havent done one because im not able to but gear swaps are much cheaper
