For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 23 | I purchased someone elses project. All the horror stories are true. Among other things I have a rear end with 10 bolts and a number PA 1127 G1 stamped into the axel housing passenger side. Is there a way to identify what this came out of? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 319 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 319 | You may have a first generation (67-69)camaro rear end. You gave us the axle assembly stamp and it could decode as PA = 3.08 ratio used in 67-69 10 bolt rear ends 11 = month (Nov) 27 = day of month G = Detroit Gear and Axle plant 1 = 1st shift To be more sure find the carrier casting number which would be 3894859 if I am right and then find the casting date code which would end in 7, 8, or 9 if it is indeed a 1st gen Camaro axle. All info I used taken from this site. http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#AxleCodes

So now that I know what I have is this a logical unit for a 52 1/2 ton? The engine that came with it is a 216 out of a 53 car matched to a 58 powerglide. That is as far as the PO got. he didn't bother to match up a drive shaft which shouldn't be difficult. This is not going to be a street scortcher but I don't want it to fight to have to get out of it's own way. Opinions would be appreciated.

Second, your intended use for the truck will obviously dictate the best driveline. You might do fine hauling light loads and getting around town and highway with your present setup.
If you only get one or two more opinions on your setup, the present discussion title is the problem. You might start a new discussion in this section with a title such as "216/Powerglide/3.08, Will it work?"
Good luck with your project.
