My speedometer began making this horrible noise then the needle got pinned and finally broke. I had to disconnect the cable to continue driving. I finally took it apart but broke the thin shaft that drives the needle in the process. I "fixed" it by supergluing a very thin tube (from a watch band connector) over the two broken halves. It's a very iffy fix.

Does anybody have a speedo for a 62, PU? I looked in the swap meet but no luck.

I had the same thing happen on my '62 too. :o
I found a replacement guage cluster on Ebay, these are always on there. 1960-63 Chevy guage clusters are the same. They did make a few different ones. The first one has the dummy lights, the second one had needle temp + fuel gauges, the third one had 4 needle guages with or without the vacumm guage + factory tach.

Had exactly the same thing happen to my 62 flatbed and I fixed it the same way too, but the needle just broke again. Found a 61 Tow Truck in a wrecking yard nearby but they want $35.00 for the instrument cluster so I think I'll check e-bay also. Thanks for the tip.

How did you search for the instrument cluster on e-bay? I tried using 'Chevy instrument cluster' 'Chevy speedometer' etc. but came up with nada. I haven't surfed e-bay very much...any suggestions? ( I did find a couple of good deals on some old 'bolts though) :confused: :confused:

I type in a few different searches, for example i'll type "62 chevy truck". I do this from 60-66 followed by chevy truck. If I didn't find what I was looking for in that search, I'll delete the "chevy truck", and type in "GMC".I'll go through 60-66 all over again. lol I also use "1960 chevy truck" + "1960 GMC", and get a bunch of hits too, and have found a few parts that I needed using these searches.
