Tomorrow I will be picking up my 51 at the upholstery shop. I got a preview last week of the carpet and was very pleased with how it looks and the quality of the work. I'll post some pics.

Found a great deal on a chrome booster & m/c. Also shaved the bumper & reworked the grille. I was going to have them chromed but could buy new ones for a third of the cost. Decided I'll probably go with a mono paint.

Looking good John. Is that a flat paint or primer?

Thanks Jim, the whole truck is satin black,I will get a pro paint job as and when funds allow but this will have to do meantime,I NEED to get this old crate on the road! grin
I'm still shopping around for a decent upholsterer to do the bench seat though.

I took the 3rd member out of my parts truck last weekend to put in my daily driver. I borrowed another set of jack stands from a friend and pulled the 3rd member out of my 59 Apache. when I pulled the axles out I realized my bearings were shot. I ordered bearings, seals, & gaskets from Classic Parts. Had to ride my motorcycle all week but finally got to start putting it back together about 5:00 this evening. I was kind of nervous about it because I had never even took a differential cover off before but it went back together pretty easy. I drove it to town to haul off trash and then went to Sonic for 1/2 price milkshakes. Truck has not been so quiet going down the road since I got it. When I got home tonight I looked under it and it was not leaking any grease at all. I was proud. Sunday will be the test when I have to go to my folks for Mother's Day. They live about 35 miles away. I think I have it fixed though. I am keeping my fingers crossed just the same.

It's OK Jim, I had a LHD Porsche 914 for 7 years,so no problems there.
I realise it's not a video,but I already tried a small burnout
Just to make sure my weld strength was OK.......
It got the curtains twitching for sure!

Mind you have you seen the price of tyres recently?

Thanks Robert,it's a 20 footer job and I used rattle cans, the plan was to cover the primer, sadly I didn't use epoxy and I was getting surface rust showing due to a really damp winter.
Turned out better than I thought, although there are a few lumps and bumps to address as well.
Who says the camera doesn't lie? lol.

Well today was the day I finished everything on the 1948 GMC
truck & took it for a drive. The only thing I would like to replace now is the front bumper & splash apron. It has been a busy last few weeks getting her done but I'm glad so Now I can drive her. I also now can focus on the 1953 chevy

Until next time......

Got the last couple of pieces off the frame. Only thing left to pull are the rear spring bolts (they don't want to budge) and it's off to the sandblasters.

Well I took the 1948 for a drive to Heppner(20miles). Made it there but the carb was flooded was able to get it going again made it home & changed out the old barb with a new one I had on the shelve also change out the spark plugs, plug wires & cap/rotor. Runs much better now & didn't flooding out. Will be going to Heppner again today with it to make sure all the bugs are out of it before I make a longer trip.....

Finally got the carpet and headliner in along with the kickpanels. I will have it down in Blanco this weekend with 200+ other gearheads. I'm not confident enough to drive it the 250 miles so I'll U-Hall it. I have 115 miles on it now and still have a few kinks to work-out yet.

I'll get some pics today & get them uploaded. Nothing special, I used 2x6 for the rails & 2x4 for the stake pockets. I Stained them a pine color then sealed them.

Finished putting 3.55 gears in, made a world of difference. My "smart phone" clocked me a 70. Took about 7 miles to stop though, LOL. Sorted out the electrical enough last night to get the great state of Texas to inspect the truck. Now just grinding off bondo from PO.

Got my alternator mounted, pulled the valve cover & spark plugs and confirmed that my engine that's been sitting 17 years isn't locked up. Turning the fan I was able to watch all the valves working and only felt a slight spot where the cylinders had been sitting. I'm hoping there won't be any issues there. I had put 2 oz of MMO in each cylinder back in January to let it soak.

I also was able to drain all the old antifreeze. I still need to flush it good.

Mounted an electric fan from a 94 Buick Century in my 53 1/2T. Fit like it was made to be there. Made the brackets out of kine bar to bolt to the rad. support frame. Just sits over my pump pulley perfectly. Plenty of clearance for motor movement. The fan covers the entire radiator. Ain't it great when it all comes together!

Removed the front axle of my '48 with the spindles attached. I needed a 30" pipe on my breaker bar to remove the shackle nuts. I thought I was going to twist the truck off the jack stands!

I suppose I missed my chance to buy a good impact wrench! Dang.

I'll be bringing the axle to a machine shop to remove the king pin lock bolts and the king pins if necessary. I couldn't get the bolts to budge with a 3/4" brass drift punch and hammer.

Put a split bench seat and seat belts from a 99 Dodge Intrepid. Went in real easy. I used 3" angle bar for the support. They look like they were made for the truck.

Put a new set of wires on it. I had bought a set from NAPA while trying to track down a problem, but they were blue and too long. This is an original type set from Jim Carter, and they look 100% better. Thanks, Jim!

Nice Job
Hard to believe you started this thread 3 1/2 years ago and now the real fun begins.

I found there is a hard to describe feeling when its done and a driver. I kind of miss the big project aspect a little.

Its never really done,is it

Thanks guys. I knew someone would ask for the pics Todd. I didn't add pics because I wanted to get the new wheels and the bedrails on first. Below is a pic I took at the show. My new wheels should be in sometime next week and I should have them painted, bolted on and a picture taken sometime in early June.
