I just spent the afternoon cleaning up my "new" 1946 two ton. I'm sure I'll have plenty of '46 related questions later.
In the meantime, here's a few photos of her after I washed off all the dust and bird droppings and vaccumed out a small forest worth of acorns and mouse pills. The truck lived its entire life on a 400 acre cattle farm and had never been out of Georgia until yesterday. Owner restored the truck in 1992, but there has been less than 200 miles put on the clock since then.
I think I did ok with this one. Looks good so far. It needs a little carb work, and probably the brakes need going through. We shall see.

Congrats Scott, That's a very nice looking truck. As you've probably noticed those '41-'46 GM trucks have even less room for us big guys, than the '47-'54's do.

Scott,
You have a very good looking truck. At least you can tell its not a rust bucket.
Where in Ga. did you find it?

Spanky,
Yea that truck sure is tight on the inside. I guess people were just smaller back then.
Harold,
The truck was up in the toccoa area, Stephens county I think. The truck spent it's whole life in Ga, it was built in Atlanta, April '46.

That's a very nice truck! I still wish my '47 was a '46 sometimes. I love that style.

Does it still have the govenor on it? Noticed it has the clearance loop in the radiator bracket.

Drydock, no, there isnt a governor on the truck, I just notice that loop tonight. In fact, I just got the Carter W1 back together after a good bath in the carb soak bucket. I hope this will cure some of the issues it's having with running rough. It appears recently rebuilt, but has been sitting with 3 year old gas in it so I hope it was just gummed up. Tomorrow will tell the tale.
Y'all are right, my two daughters (4 & 6) and I pretty much fill up the cab. One good thing, I can roll down the passenger window without bending over in the seat. smile

What a sweetheart! That big ol' country gal still has a lot of charm left in her. Great find.

That's one of the things that I find facinating about these trucks, its a tiny cab but its a big truck.
Nice truck!

I chuckle whenever I see literature that spoke of it as a "three-man cab".

Yeah - if they were all pygmies, maybe . . .

If you put in three men, you better put in an automatic tranny, too, 'cause you ain't gonna be shifting that thing . . .

I'm telling ya, two little girls and I are a cab full. I'm convinced people were just smaller then. The doors in my great grand-dads house are so small I have to turn sideways and duck to go through them. And they don't build the houses or trucks like that anymore.
Well, I have a plate and insurance on the old girl now. I've got my fingers crossed now, waiting on the title to come back in about 6 months. I hope I didn't forget to dot an I or cross a t somewhere.

I fit 3 in my cab of my 2.5ton '42 GMC (which seems to have less room than my 2ton '46 Chevy)

albeit, it was a tiny friend of mine and his even smaller girlfriend sprawled across both of us (She was only sprawled across us because I kept feeling her up when I shifted)as we bounced through a field with his kid riding in the bed.

When I and two of my brothers were in grade school, our Dad used to take us to school in our '46 1 ton pickup and also haul the milk in to the creamery at the same time. I was the oldest at about 11 or 12.
If Dad was working in the field, then the job went to Mom. When she drove, the two younger boys had to come along too! Needless to say, there was not a lot of room in that cab with 5 kids and 1 adult! And shifting got pretty crowded too!

Ken,
Thanks. I'm learning as I go in this hobby. My first old truck was a 47 2nd that is and may forever be torn into a million pieces. The second one was a '50 that may one day get through with body work. Next came the COE that I've got mechanically sound and on the road. Now comes the '46. With some buffing and a few small paint touch ups it could be a show vehicle. It really is almost in too good of shape. I like my trucks to at least act like they earn their keep. This one is almost to pretty.

I have a 46 two ton that I have restored with the same Brewster Green/Black paint scheme. It is on the Gallery Page under George Berry's Two Ton. Since you are close to me maybe we can get together sometime and compare notes. Let me know. GB
