I have a 59 viking 60 that has what I was told is a 350 in it. after running the code stamped on the passenger side front pad (VI226YH) that means its a 1966 or 1967 327 from a C10-C30. From what I understand, The 350 and 327 both have a 4" bore. So to make a 350 out of the engine I have could I just put in a 3.48" stroke 350 crank?

So the largest displacement you can get using stock parts in a 67 and prior block is 327 cu. in.. hope that helps.

The large-journal 327 crank spins freely in a 350 block, but not the other way around. I raced 327's on the dirt track for several years, and we couldn't make a 350 out of one with a crank swap. Look up the casting number on mortec.com to be sure of what you have. Casting number is on top rear of drivers side on the block.

Also, check your heads - if you have the Camel Hump / Double Hump heads they flow pretty well.

The man said he had a 66 or 67 327, which is a small journal crank. The point was a 327 is capable of making some really good ponies. Mortec is a good, free, on-line source that for the most part is accurate. I don't rely on it like a Bible. I have my Chevrolet by the Numbers books for that.

For a lot of years, us hotrodders bored out 283's to 4" to make a "301" engine. Chevy caught on in 67, put a 3" stroke crank in a 327 block, and called it a "302". They cheated half a cubic inch! (301.46) The Z-28 Camaros got everybody's attention with that engine and its 8,000+ RPM capability! Jerry

They are written by Alan Colvin the editor of Corvette Fever magazine. I would highly recommend them as the best for accurate numbers of heads and blocks. Especially for the "absolute" correct guys out there.

I have what I believed was a 327 & checked the numbers out on mortec.com & it said it was a 327. Pulled the heads & mic'd it & it was a 307....joe [/b]Joe, How did you mic the heads to find engine size?Because thay ran the same heads on alot of small blocks. The only differance is cc and valve size and intake runners and exhaust runners. So some one could have put 307 heads on your 327.
