For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 30 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 30 | I started a new thread 'cause I'm at my wits end. I've got the window assy back in the door without scratching it up too badly. But no matter how I try, I cannot get the rubber lip to go out over the window opening around the vent window. I've poked and proded, tried screw drivers and popsicle sticks. I've had the assy screwed down tight and floppy loose. I just can't get the rubber to stay folded out around the opening. Anyone have any tips? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | I had to go look at my truck to see what you might mean .... the rubber doesn't go out over the door metal, it butts up against the openingBill | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | I think he is referring to the VENT WINDOW RUBBER and it is a bear to get where it belongs. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 30 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 30 | Yes. Looks like you have to pry it out over the edge of the opening and it's beyond a bear. I've tried everything I can think of. I even tried masking tape to pull it back as I slide the assembly forward. At this point I don't even care about the paint on the door. I just want it done right! | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | Try slicking it up with some dish soap water. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | yes, the vent rubber, on a TF truck, need someone else with a 55-59 to take a picture

Or it falls back down into the door. After half an hour of that nonsense I went back to the house to recover my sanity. Try slicking it up with some dish soap water. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | Tmater is talking about and picturing an AD truck [47-54], you have a 56, the Task Force series ... did your originals lap onto the door metal?
Bill | | | | | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 30 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 30 | Yes, both sides lap over the door about an 1/8" all around. Not much to work with, and even worse trying to keep it overlapped as you work. Put it on and everything was cool. I guess TF is different.
Berryboats, before you do loose your sanity you gotta look at someone else's truck..... and maybe your rubber is not for that truck.....Where did it come from? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 30 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 30 | Like any good newby, I'm doing one side at a time. So I can go to the passenger side and see what it's supposed to look like. I can also see the paint line on the door. I may try the soapy water trick. After that I'll take it to an expert.
