I have a 1959 1/2 ton 3100 that I've just started trying to get back into running condition. While replacing brake lines yesterday my hand slipped off a wrench and hit the hose to the canister oil filter, basically shattering it. Turns out the other hose was just as rotten. I am having trouble finding replacement hoses in the right length/size/configuration - no luck at NAPA. One hose is 14" and the other is 17". Is substituting metal lines an option? I'm not quite sure about the size and end connections. I've attached some pics of the hose ends here Long hose ends pic Short hose ends pic Canister pic

Classic Parts in Riverside, Mo. has a good set. They come with swivels & 90 degree els.
You are lucky to find the bad ones this way. Many engines have been ruined by these hoses failing.

You can also have them made at tractor stores that make hydraulic hoses.

You are very lucky that you discovered the rotten hoses that way!

I plumbed mine with steel brake line. I thought it was a great solution untill I tried to drain it. It is really tricky getting a container in there as the steel lines don't budge!

There's a cheaper option of using barb fittings and regular rubber fuel line with hose clamps. Like this.

I did the same... it was inexpensive and effective. Two great combinations for me!

You can also use the hoses for grease guns can't you? I seem to recall they are the same, you just need the pipe fitting adaptors.

Go to your local tractor or equipment dealer. They can make them for you. If you go the barbed fitting route, do yourself a favor and get fuel injection or power steering type hose. Plain old fuel line won't hold up.

That happened to me! Luckily I wasn't far from home.

I also though about using steel lines and may in the future. Mine does not drain nearly as well from the bottom hole so I just ended up using a drill pump stuck in a bucket with a few lengths of pvc, no problem and empties quick.
