I havent had it on the road yet because of the brakes but based on what I have read on here I think 50-60 mph.Your truck would cool to see as a rollback

Nice truck. I don't have a deck on mine yet, and I was thinking beavertail.

The 2-speed in the '57 has a high gear ratio of 6.40:1 (low is 8.72:1). If you have 9.00x22.5 tires they are about 35" tall so your speeds will be as follows;

at 2000 rpm = 32 mph

at 3000 rpm = 48 mph

at 4000 rpm = 65 mph

If you have 10.00x22.5 tires they are about 39" tall so your speeds will be as follows;

at 2000 rpm = 36 mph

at 3000 rpm = 54 mph

at 4000 rpm = 72 mph

This calculater doesn't care how many cylinders or how much HP you have, it's all about RPM.

My 1956 Tow Truck with a 350 sbc and a 2-speed runs 65 mph all day long.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the chart Mike, I assume you have 10:00s on your 56 tow truck and that you are
running about 3500 rpm at 65 mph. A little off subject but did you ever visit that big
salvage yard and what were the results?

Yes, I run 10.00x22.5's on my tow truck.

I've been to a lot of junk yards in the past 8 weeks. I haven't been back to Greens in NC (was there 5-6 years ago).

I didn't see any LCF trucks. I did score (2) SM-420 PTO's, an accessory Hi Tone horn for the 1955-56 trucks and a genuine Budd lug wrench. I also got the 55-59 Suburban gas tank wedges I needed to hang that tank on my '56 3100 pickup project.

This is what someone recently said about Green's on the ATHS site,
"all of the old stuff at greens is gone... cleaned up all the yards just got one site still operating with late model stuff in it....".
