Hi!
So I made pretty good progress on taking my stuck engine apart. I am down to the camshaft and crankshaft. Pulled both gears! Lifters are all out, head off etc
I can not get the cam shaft out!!! Removed the two screws on plate. Tried pipe wrench, but it won't hold! Was able to pry behind the plate a little bit, but little to no movement! Yes- sprayed the cam with lubricant/oil etc!
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy,
Is the distributor out? It engages with the camshaft.

If the cam is junk, like it sounds like it is, drill and tap a hole in the end of it and use a slide hammer puller to try to pull it out of the block. The simple way is to drive it out from the back, but the engine has to be removed to do that. It sounds like that engine needs to become a boat anchor and you needd to find a better-condition candidate for a rebuild.

If the remains of the fiber gear are getting in the way, try burning it off. You should be able to sink the teeth of the pipe wrench into the steel collar.
