For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 226 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2007 Posts: 226 | I would like to hang the frame of my 57 1/2 ton from the rafters of my shop so I can prep it and paint it at a convenient height. It's already sandblasted. I've got the rafters braced for the load.
I thought I'd use several of the holes in one side of the frame and temporarily install eye bolts and then hang the frame with chain and hooks.
Would this method put any unusual strain on the frame and cause it to deform?
Am I missing any other problems with this method? Please let me know your thoughts or experience with this idea. I put it here instead of in the paint area because I thought more people would see it.
Thanks,

Don't weld anything to it while it is hanging as it will be welded to a slightly flexed shape, not the same as when it is on its wheels. Paint should be flexible enough to withstand the (very slight) change in shape when you bring it down... Powder coat might crack at rivet joints.
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.
