Korean war times saving metal no doubt. DMV will let u tag truck using these odd plates. I bet most people think the owner just did that to change the year on his own!! I also have the county metal tag that was used back in the day. Both will go with the truck when I sell it this spring if the new owner is from Va. I wonder what other states did this or something simular and can u use em today?

New York state had no 1954-specific full-plate. A new vehicle registered in NY in 1954 used a 1953 plate with a small 1954 metal plate that covered the 1953 in the lower right corner. Also, only one plate was used on NY vehicles at that time.
Yes, you can use original Year Of Manufacture plate(s) in NY. It is easy to do (have have plates for three 1954/55 vehicles). The plate(s) must be original paint and the number/code must not now be in use on any other NY plate.

The Truck tags are red plates with white letters and different color metal year tags. At first, the new tag went in the upper right corner. During WW11 Wisconsin had a plate made from soybeans,if you got the vehicle around farm animals they would try to eat them.
