First problem was it would not go in all the way, I realized the pilot bearing was not in all the way. So I pressed it all the way in so it bottoms out, now the tranny still will not go in all the way! The bearing and clutch are all new. The tranny is about a little more than a 1/4 inch from the bell housing and I cannot for the life of me get it all the way in.
Any ideas?
Any ways to force it in with the bolts? | | |

Make sure the nose of the transmission will fit in the pilot bushing, maybe the bushing got banged up and has a bur on it or is the wrong one. Make sure the clutch disc is lined up with the pilot bushing. Check to see that the release bearing will slide on the collar easily. Make sure the release fork is not binding on the pivot or on the release bearing. Hope this helps, Fred

Then depress the clutch pedal. If there's a slight misalignment, releasing the pressure plate will allow everything to fall into alignment. If you give the trans a little shake and push from behind while the clutch is released, it should fall right in. If not, remove the clutch and pressure plate, and see if the trans will bolt up without the clutch installed.
One mistake that happens occasionally is the clutch disc gets installed backwards. The hub with the torsion springs in it needs to face away from the flywheel. Yes, it can be installed either way, but it only fits right one direction.
