Ran GREAT for about 20 miles. Ran better than ever. Then....started sputtering and stalling. Pulled choke out and limped it back to my shop. Runs poorly with choke engauges and wont even start with no choke. Any ideas? New fuel filter too. | | |

I'll bet Brian is 'spot on' as they say across the pond! Maybe in your swap, some junk was introduced into the fuel lines/system...did you use any Teflon tape? My first check would be the needle and seat.

I save the Teflon for non-automotive uses and just use some type of thread sealant on the engine when needed. Dig around, you might find some white stringy stuff plugging your carburetor....bingo! Some of them are the newer style, a lass cylinder with metal ends. The new style would serve the same purpose to view sediment build up. There is one from a 53 Chevy 2 door.

If the above suggestions don't cure the problem, try swapping out the new fuel pump. I had the very same problem you are having after I put on a new fuel pump(mechanical). Except that I got about 30 miles down the road. It sorta sucks you can't trust new parts, but every once in a while they're bad right out of the box. Good luck.
