I'm looking for the same info. I found this "how-to" but haven't found the tool.

I don't think that's for the coil springs on the AD links.
Anyway, it doesn't specify what that tool will work on.

As far as I know the spring is not servicable separatly, at least I haven't been able to find the spring listed.

The new link assemblys are only about $35 and most of the vendors carry them.

I think most of the time the hood is simply maladjusted and it's not the spring that's at fault.

Here's another hood spring tool. This one is for a mid-50's F-100. Similar hood spring to AD hoods. Click on "Instructions" to see how it works.

I have no idea if it will work.

I originally started the search for a hood spring tool for my buddy's '53 F-100 panel truck. He greased the spring after his restoration - now it won't stay up. I hoped that if he bought a tool, I could use it to remove my springs and blue them like D.G. told me a few months ago.

Yep, and here are the original hinge links restored:

http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/140044213/large
I hope you’re not thinking that the hood should pop up with those spring. The hood won’t
stay up by itself until the links have reach their full movement and it the stops. Any thing
lower that that and the hood will not stay open by itself.
This is the stop on the link. It’s just like locking your knees when you have to stand in
formation for a long time, cept you don’t have to worry bout the hood passing out, like
you would: http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/140044594/large

And once again, I don't see what good it will do you to remove the spring unless you
were able to find new ones, which probably isn't the problem in the first place.

For the "for what its worth dept.". I tend to agree with Denny. Most of you will remember what a time I had with getting my hood back on and adjusted correctly. I was ready to throw in the towel and buy new hinges and springs. Gosh, I was so aggravated with it.
Then, I started all over and like Denny suggested, it wasn't the springs anyway. I finally got them and the hood shuts great. I just need to lift the rear of the fenders just a tat.

Good luck. You can do it.

Thanks, Denny and Alvin -

I'll just clean up hinges and springs and try to convence myself that they look as good as Denny's. My buddy will be back in FL next week. We'll play with the hinges on his '53 F-100 (pic slow to load) to see why they are not holding the hood open.

> NICK - Did Alvin and Denny answer your question? ... the spring does not hold up the hood by itself. Or were you asking how to install the complete hinge with spring? Sorry for leading your thread astray. I thought that you were asking how to install (remove) the spring from the hinge.
