I can tell you that it is a perfect circle shaped cover and that from the books i have, NOT a dana axle. can't find the i.d. tag either. the problem is that theses books dont tell what it IS. Also, did th400's come stock in these fine automobiles? | | |

I have a couple and they are indestructable. It had several ratio options, and was even available with a Detroit Locker differential in the later models. We ran them in dirt-track race cars in the 70's, behind 500-HP engines without any real problems. They were goshawful heavy in those dirt cars, though! One identifying feature is a backlash adjustmnet on the side of the carrier housing on the driver's side, that bears against the side of the ring gear when it's coasting. Tricky to adjust! Jerry

Go here: http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/th400.htm Your differential should be either a 10 or 12 bolt, you count the number of bolts in the cover. From my knowledge of these you should have a 4.10 gear ratio, since you have the automatic. Standard tranny was the SM465, which came with 4.57 gears.
