I have a 1948 GMC 3/4 ton with a floor shift 4 speed. I was going to run down to the flaps and pick some gear oil to change it out. What type and weight do you guys use? How much do I need to get? ohwell

Thanks for the info.

90 wt. seems like a qt would do it. It never hurts to have a extra qt on hand for the diff. too. Someone else?

i use 80/90 weight.

many transmission aces recommend non-synthetic because, in theory, the synthetics are too "slippery" to allow the syncros to stick a little and line the gears up. makes sense to me, so i use good old left over dinosaurs.

I think you will need 2-2 1/2 QTS any extra is spare
for the steering box, rear end.

I have been using synthetic oil in all my vehicles for the last 26 years with excellent results. This includes the engine, transmission ( automatic or standard ), transfer case, and rear end. The gear lube I used to recommend was the 80W-90, but the newer 75W-90 has a higher film strength and has a pour point of -50 degrees.
