Finaly found a 5 window 53 1/2 ton this summer and recently purchased one for parts. As many of these trucks in Wisconsin body is in very rough shape but I am loving it. I would like to do a an original restoration to the truck other than the engine it has a 54 235 in it and that just might have to stay babbit bearings just don't apeal to me yet, but we will see.

I understand your desire to do a 'proper' restoration but sticking with the full pressure motor appeals to me too.
The guys here may quell some of your concerns,should you decide to go back to the old motor.

Both engines are tight and I just would like things to go as smoothly as possible. Given the amount of repairs that will need to be made to make the 53 run I guess once I tear down the 54 235 that will decide my fate.

Also I am a cheesehead but only by transplantation to make matters worse I am originaly from upper Michigan which makes me a "Yooper" at heart. Its nice to see another Wisconsinite. I may not be in WI any more but I grew up in Superior and my heart is still made of cheese.
You have a nice project there. It looks alot like the one I am doing. Like you I want a restoration that is close to 100% but some minor changes are ok so it can be enjoyed. There is alot of work to be done so I wouldn't worry about the motor for now. Once the truck is almost done you can decide if you want to swap it out. I am running my 216 and it will stay there until it dies. If the babbits or the oiling system cause its death then so be it. There are always alot of 235's out there to swap in as a replacement.
