71 chevy 350 with a s-10 motor swap kit. My 51 is sitting on a s-10 frame.
motor sits low in chasis to the point that there is only 1/8" or less clearance before the fuel pump comes in contact with the /kits' modified motor mount bracket.

is there a mech fuel pump that is aftermarket and dosent' sit so low? Bottom half not as thick?
been looking in the summit catalog and they have one (their lable) that seems like it may work but when i call, they can't confirm.

Grind a little clearance into the bracket. We had to do that on some of the motor mount brackets we used on the race cars. Unless you do a massive butcher job, you're not likely to compromise the strength of the bracket with a little trimming.

Unless Im missing something, why not go with an electric fuel pump?

have never went the elect route before. not sure where to start. trying to keep it simple.
Bought this truck to keep away from all the elect parts and stick with older 'manual' stuff (hei is as fancy as i was planning to go).

if no other options shake out, i'll have to look more closely at modifying the motor mount.

Electric pumps open up a whole new can of worms. The compact ones don't flow enough volume to support high speed operation a warmed-over engine with a 4-BBL carb, and the race pumps have a habit of overpressuring the needle valve and flooding the engine at idle. The next thing you'll be looking for is a pressure regulator.

Just buy a Carter pump, preferrably a new one made in the 1980's or before if somebody on e-Pay happens to have a new old stock item, and do a little surgery on the motor mount. Problem solved!

ok so i'm looking at this one in perticular.
pressures and flow look ok for a MILD rebuild (350 qjet and mild cam)

not so sure about buying a 30yo fuel pump. these run off a rubber diaphram in the pump, don't they?

It's bound to be some sort of import. I think even the "Carter" brand name has been hung on imported junk now, which is the reason I reccomended a NOS unit that was still made in the USA. 5-8 PSI is a LOT of fuel pressure, so be sure the carb doesn't flood. The volume looks OK for anything short of a multi-carb setup, but you might want to consider including a pressure regulator in the system.

Is the pump closer than this 350 in a 52 on an S10 frame? It's driven 5 days a week, 52 weeks a years in downtown Dallas traffic. No problem yet after 5 years. http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/coilover/
