I want to retain the original column shifter. Do the stock shifter and linkages work with the later model tranmission and 235 out of the 57 chevy. I tried several searches on this subject, but couldn't find this exact question in the archives. Thanks

I had that setup in my '49 (column shift with '56 passenger transmission) and 3B gave you the right answer. I think you may have to file a new notch on the shift fork shaft to fit the arm(s) but it was pretty easy.
