I'm having trouble finding shocks to fit my 64 K10. The old ones are completely rusted out. The vendors i went to cannot identify a replacement that will match the size of the mounts which are original to the vehicle. Anyone have some direction on what current replacement shock will work offering a smooth ride. thanks john

For my '65 c10 lwb... I went to the parts store and they looked 'em up.

The biggest pain was installing them when 3 of the 4 bolts broke getting the old ones off.

Have you tried the local parts stores?

I've gone to my local Napa and Carquest shops. Napa couldn't even locate shocks for the rear....Carquest came back with one solution but they where close to $140 per shock. I think they're a bit expensive. The guy had to measure the old shock and worked backwards to locate what current shock matched. Im not prepared to replace the mounts to fit more modern shock fittings.

I got 4 Gabriel shocks from our local Auto Zone store. They took 2 days to get them in, they weren't that expensive plus a rebate.

If you can't fix it with a hammer and screwdriver, you need a bigger hammer.

I used Monroe's but on the rear I had to grind the bushings in the lower shock end to make them fit. Once the bushing was flush with the groumet, they went right in. The fronts went right in with no problems.

The problem with the rear shocks on the 1/2 ton 4x4 and 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks, is the hole size. These shocks have a 3/4" i.d. mounting eye on the top & bottom and not many shocks are currently offered, in this configuration with the proper compressed length and travel. Here is what I use and the price is great:

Thanks very much for the responses and support. Not sure why its been so hard for me here in upstate NY to find the right shocks. This is a huge help.
